ABSTRACTHealth-related quality of life (HRQL) is an important domain for measuring the impact of chronic disease and evaluating treatment. Both general and disease-specific instruments have been used to measure HRQL in COPD patients. Since general health questionnaires were originally designed for application to a wide variety of diseases, they may not be explicit enough to evaluate specific disease conditions. Disease- specific questionnaires may be more sensitive as a higher proportion of their content is directly relevant to the disease under study. In this chapter we review the most frequently used HRQL questionnaires, both general and disease- specific for COPD.
